EMT Paramedic - Phase 1 (part 1) (Pre-Req. EMT-B Certification)

This 1,920 hour course is held in a total of three phases over a 4 month period. The American Medical Response (AMR) will be handling all tuition payments, reviewing and accepting all pre-requisite requirements, as well as the scholarship process and approval. Phase 1: Part 1 and Part 2 courses will be held at Housatonic Community College during the fall and spring semesters. Course Description:
This course fulfills all of the training requirements set forth by the State of Connecticut’s initial Paramedic Certification. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Exam. This certification can lead to employment in a wide range of field, to include Ambulance or Fire Paramedic, E.R. Technician, Special Functions Paramedic (sporting events, concerts, etc) The American Medical Response, Inc. owns NCTI. Direct employment referrals are reserved for NCTI students.

Phase 1: 600 hours, Housatonic Community College
Phase 1 will be held during two semesters, part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 (300 hours) and Part 2 (300 hours) will be held at Housatonic Community College. Part 1 will be held during the fall semester and Part 2 will be held during the spring semester. All students MUST BE FLEXIBLE with their schedule each semester in order to complete this course. The hours, time and days may change depending on room availability on campus.

Phase 2: Clinical Rotations, 160 hours (to be taken at AMR)
You will need to complete 160 hours of clinical work. This will be arranged by the AMR for each student. Each student will be placed at one of several acute hospitals in the area. Guaranteed placement for NCTI students.

Phase 3: Field Internships, 480 – 720 hours (to be taken at AMR)
You will need to complete 480 – 720 field internship hours. The American Medical Response will be responsible for scheduling all students for internship placement depending on experience and individual performance. There is a guaranteed internship placement if students choose to intern with this agency (AMR).

Refunds:
The college will NOT be held responsible for refunds once the student enrolls and pays for the course. Once enrolled in the program, the student is firmly committed to complete the program in full with NO refunds allowed for any circumstance. Refunds will NOT be allowed if students can not attend course scheduled days and times.

Admission applicant qualifications:

  1. Must be 18 years old or older
  2. Must have a high school diploma or GED
  3. Must have a current CPR Certification card
  4. Must have a current EMT – B Certification and maintained through out the paramedic program.
