Harding High School Principal Joins Housatonic CC Foundation Board

Carol D. Birks, principal of Warren Harding High School, has become a Board member of the Housatonic Community College Foundation, Inc.

Birks recently was appointed principal at Harding where she had been assistant principal since 2004. During her tenure as assistant principal, Birks was project director for the $300,000 Comprehensive School Reform Grant, was involved with the Middle College Pilot Program, partnering high schools and Housatonic Community College, and was liaison for pre-collegiate programs and the Department of Higher Education.

Birks is a graduate of Harding High School, received her B.A. from Hampton University, M.S. in Education and Sixth Year Professional Diploma from the University of Bridgeport. Additionally she was the President’s Administrative Fellow at Housatonic Community College. She is currently pursing her superintendent’s certification at the University of Connecticut. She is a resident of Bridgeport.

The Housatonic Community College Foundation was formed in 1990 to assist the College and its students beyond the fundamentals provided by the state. The Foundation provides resources for scholarships, equipment, program enhancements, community outreach and support for the Housatonic Museum of Art. The Foundation is conducting a major gifts campaign, seeking to raise $1 million which will assist the College to continue to provide convenient and affordable post-secondary training and life-long learning to those in the Bridgeport area.

Maureen Dowdle, HCC director of Institutional Advancement, says, “We are delighted to welcome Carol Birks to the Board of Directors of the Housatonic Foundation. Carol has been involved with Housatonic for several years and her deep commitment to education and to Bridgeport’s students will be extremely valuable to the work of the Foundation.”
