BRIDGEPORT – Need financial aid for college? Need help filling out the federal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form?

Come to Housatonic Community College Sunday, Feb. 10, at 1:30 p.m. for a free financial aid workshop. Financial aid experts will be on hand to answer questions and help you fill out this form.

“The FAFSA is the gateway for receiving financial aid for paying tuition and other college expenses, but filling it out can be a daunting task,” said Dr. Avis Hendrickson, HCC Dean of Students. “The workshop creates an opportunity for people to fill out the FAFSA with the help of financial aid specialists.”

The workshops, she said, will be held in the college’s computer labs, because on-line applications have a faster turnaround time, she said.

You don’t have to be a Housatonic applicant or student to attend a workshop, she said. They’re open to anyone interested in attending any college who needs help paying for it.

Prospective financial aid applicants should bring:

  • Their driver’s license.
  • Their FAFSA PIN number if they have one.
  • Independent students: their 2007 income information, including W2s or a pay stub, and/or a 2007 income tax return.
  • Dependent students should bring their parents’ 2007 income information (including W2s or a pay stub, and/or a 2007 income tax return). Ideally, they should bring a parent as well.
  • Non-citizens should bring a copy of their alien registration card.

Spanish translators will be on hand to offer assistance.

Workshops will be offered between 1:30 and 4 p.m. Funded by the Lumina Foundation, the workshops are being held as part of College Goal Sunday. HCC is one of six colleges in the state participating in this program.

HCC is located in downtown Bridgeport , less than 150 yards off I-95 (Exit 27) and Rte. 8 (Exit 1) in downtown Bridgeport , a block from the Arena at Harbor Yard.
