FAST TRACK SQL COURSE STARTS JULY 7 AT HCC

BRIDGEPORT – Housatonic Community College is offering a course in the database language SQL starting July 7.

SQL is the common database language used by all Windows and Web page applications that require access to data in databases. It is used by Web page designers and Database Administrators for all databases, including the new Web-based, high-speed MySQL (used by Yahoo), Oracle, Access and Microsoft’s SQL Server.

“This one of a number of fast-track, no-nonsense courses we offer to give you what you want, when you want it,” said Deborah S. Kuchmas, HCC coordinator of continuing education. “It’s ideal for people who want to improve their skills fast – so they can make themselves more marketable – for a career change, a new job or a promotion.”

“These courses are graded on a pass/fail system,” she said.

This non-credit course will use Access to learn SQL in an easy visual mode, and create reports and queries. A Web-based MySQL database and Access will then be used to create reports, create and update tables, delete records, and perform other database administrator functions.

Basic MS Windows skills are required.

The course, to be taught by Manfred Mohring, will meet Mondays, July 7 – August 11, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Room B210. Tuition is $349.

Interested students who cannot take the July course have the opportunity to take it in September. It is being offered Mondays, Sept. 8 – October 20, (no class Oct. 13) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Room B210.
