BLACK 47’S LARRY KIRWAN TO PERFORM OCT. 17 AT HOUSATONIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE

BRIDGEPORT – A Cultural Celebration of Literacy: The Stories of Us! will take place Thursday, Oct 16 when the Larry Kirwan, leader of the Irish band Black 47, makes a two-part appearance at Housatonic Community College.

Kirwan will conduct a workshop with HCC Theater Arts students from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. At the workshop, Kirwan and the students will develop a performance piece based on works by HCC Creative Writing students about important moments in the their lives and their families’.

At 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, the piece developed in the workshop will be performed by Kirwan and the Theater Arts students. Also, Kirwan will give a solo performance.

The events, which are free and open to the public, are being held as part of the college’s Third Thursday Cultural Celebration series. During most months in the academic year, a performing artist representing a specific culture comes to the college on the third Thursday to develop and perform a piece with Theater Arts students and give a solo performance.
