BRIDGEPORT – Housatonic Community College is offering a new Web Design- Graphics Foundation certificate program is designed to give students essential skills for a career in Web Design.

The program offers students with the basic knowledge and skills required to create and maintain dynamic web pages. It combines the technical and creative aspects of web design into one comprehensive program.

This includes developing clean sophisticated layouts; strong use of typography; proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Flash; and a working knowledge of X/HTML and CSS.

Students are introduced to server-side programming techniques, developing web sites that interact with servers, managing user session, and storing and retrieving data from databases.

Program content is continuously updated to reflect the current state of the art in internet computing and web programming. Students completing the Web Design – Graphic Foundation certificate may apply all but two courses to the Graphic Design: Associate Degree Parent Program and all but one course to the Associate Degree in Graphic Design: Computer Graphics Option.

Registration for the Spring semester is going on now. Students can register online through Jan. 30, or by mail, fax or dropping off completed paperwork in the lobby drop box near the Information Desk in Lafayette Hall through Jan. 9.

  • Formal registration sessions will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and Thursday. Jan. 15, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Late registration sessions will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 21,, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday, Jan. 22, , 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and Friday, Jan. 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • A special registration session for senior citizens and high school partnership students will be held Friday, Jan. 23, 1:30 to 3 p.m.
  • Classes start Monday, Jan. 26
