HOUSATONIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE CONTINUING EDUCATION

BRIDGEPORT -- Housatonic Community College is offering classes of particular interest to people looking for a job or looking to move up the job ladder.  
The College’s Continuing Education Department this is offering some 40 courses that focus on increasing workplace skills this spring. Continuing Education courses are non-credit and are graded as Pass/Fail. They are scheduled at convenient hours and vary in duration.

“Our goal is to provide an opportunity to develop and increase skills in a professional atmosphere,” explained Deborah Kuchmas, Continuing Education Coordinator. “They are ideal for people who want to improve or learn new skills to make themselves more marketable for a new job, a career change or a promotion.

“Continuing Education classes take a no-frills approach where students learn the subject in a matter of weeks rather than a full semester,” she said.
Examples of work-oriented classes for Spring 2009 at Housatonic Community College Continuing Education including their start dates and tuition are:

  • Computers: Windows Application. Keyboarding 1; 2/21 $249; Introduction to MS Office-Windows, Word, Excel & Power Point; 2/7, $279; Introductory classes in Personal Computers (with e-mail and Internet); Windows; MS Office and MS Office 2007. Intermediate and Advanced classes in Excel, Access, Word and Power Point are also available
  • Graphics and Web Design. Introductory classes in Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Web Design are all online classes. Each begins on 2/9 and tuition for each is $249; Introduction to HTML Web Page Design, 2/9, $249
  • Computer Programming & Networking. C++ Introduction, 2/7, $349, C++ Advanced Programming, 3/8 $349; Networking Fundamentals, 2/11, $249
  • Business. Taxes and Business Strategy 2/12, $165; How to Start Your Own Business (online) 2/9, $129; Principles of Bookkeeping, 2/10, $165; Leadership Strengths 2/12, $149; Managing A Successful Nonprofit, 2/14 $149;
  • One Day Seminars. Licensing: How to get Artwork on Products , 4/6, $89;  Speak, Promote & Profit Workshop, 4/11, $187; Special Event Fundraising, 2/7, $149

Among other new offerings focused on leisure activities include, Hatha Yoga, Chakras: Spinning Energy Wheels, Pet Nutrition and Conversational Arabic 2. Conversational Spanish, Chinese, and American Sign Language are popular classes being offered again this semester.
