HCC CONTEMPORARY ISSUES PROGRAM KICKS OFF MARCH 31 WITH “WOMEN IN LITERATURE”

BRIDGEPORTHousatonic Community College will kick off its new Contemporary Issues program Tuesday, March 31 with a presentation on Women in Literature.

In conjunction with Women’s History Month, HCC professor Edwena Chance of Danbury will address the subject of women writers throughout history. During the presentation, students will read selections from a variety of works by women, and Chance will provide the history and context.

The event, sponsored by the college’s Diversity Awareness Committee, is the first in a series of talks on contemporary issues related to diversity. At least twice a year, faculty and/or staff members will make a presentation on a topic that falls within their areas of expertise.

“To further its goal of promoting diversity awareness on campus, the committee voted to sponsor a lecture series featuring experts on diversity related subjects.” said Chairman Anson C. Smith. “We realized from the outset that we could look to our own ranks: Our faculty and staff have their own areas of expertise – many have written theses or conducted research in them – and many have been called upon by the print and electronic media for expert commentary.”

Chance will make two presentations: one at 3 p.m. and another at 7 p.m. Both, which will be held in the Event Center in Beacon Hall, are free and open to the public.

HCC is located at 900 Lafayette Blvd. in downtown Bridgeport, less than 150 yards off I-95 (Exit 27) and Rte. 8 (Exit 1), a block from the Arena at Harbor Yard.
