BRIDGEPORT – Housatonic Community College later this month will offer a three-day LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification preparation course.

The LEED Green Associate course, offered on April 21, 22 and 23, will provide students with a working knowledge of the LEED certification system. Students passing the course will be eligible to take the LEED Green Associate exam at an approved testing center.

  • Subjects such as global warming, carbon footprint, water efficiency, light pollution reduction, water classification and irrigation, metering and cooling tower management, onsite renewable energy and green power, recycling, building reuse, construction waste management, construction materials, FSC certified wood, sustainable purchasing, solid waste management, indoor air quality and thermal comfort.

  • Information to help pass the accreditation exam.

The LEED credentialing system was developed by the Green Building Council to provide a framework for meeting Green sustainability goals and assessing Green building performance. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance Green buildings and neighborhoods.

LEED credentials provide employers, policymakers and other stakeholders assurance that an individual is not only competent, but is the most qualified, educated and influential green building professional in the marketplace.

The course meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 133 in Beacon Hall. Tuition is 2,445, including all course materials.

HCC is located at 900 Lafayette Blvd. in downtown Bridgeport, less that 150 yards off I-95 (Exit 27) and Rte. 8 (Exit 1), a block from the Arena at Harbor Yard. Free parking is available in the HCC garage.
