Andy Pinto of Monroe, an art professor at Housatonic Community College, has helped found a table tennis team at the state-supported, two-year college in Bridgeport.

The team participated in its first competition Oct. 29, when it played HCC faculty members.

In 1973, Pinto had been a student member of the HCC ping pong team that won the Connecticut Table Tennis Association state championship.

Working with Pinto, interested students recently created a table tennis club, which now has 27 members, from which a seven-member team has been formed. “Several students who were interested in forming a club heard that I thought we should have one and sought me out,” Pinto said. “The club and the team were the outgrowth of this.”

Pinto, who serves as club adviser and team coach, hopes to see the formation of a table tennis league in southern Connecticut.
