Brandon Bisceglia capped off a perfect college career with an impressive slate of awards this week. The Fairfield resident earned 11 honors this spring upon graduating from Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, including the Academic Dean prize for his perfect 4.0 grade point average, one of only 11 students in the class to earn that distinction.

Bisceglia also put himself in an even more select group. The journalism major was the only student in Connecticut — and one of only 50 in the United States — to earn the New Century Scholar Award for academic excellence. The award and its $2,000 stipend go each year to the top community college student in each state.

Bisceglia also earned the following honors: Phi Theta Kappa All USA and Connecticut Community College Academic Award; the Housatonic Scholar; Dale Ward Scholarship; Dale Ward Endowed Scholarship; Phi Theta Kappa; Swain Award for Excellence in English and Literature; Outstanding Contributions to Horizons, the Student Newspaper of HCC; the Post Publishing Prize for Outstanding Overall Achievement in the Journalism Program; and Outstanding Service as President of the Chi Rho Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

Another Fairfielder, Joseph Wilson, earned rare distinctions from HCC. Wilson was another of the school’s graduates to take home the Academic Dean prize for his 4.0 GPA. Wilson also earned statewide honors, as he was named to the All-Connecticut Academic Team at a ceremony in Hartford in April.
