Bridgeport -‑ College student retention and graduation rates are lacking in both Connecticut and the nation. In 2010, for example, only 56 percent of community college freshmen moved into their second year. This has prompted educational specialists to focus on the first-year student experience in search of remedies to the problem. Dr. Betsy Barefoot, a national expert on the problem who will address this issue at an all-day workshop at Housatonic Community College today. There will be opportunities for interviews at 12-15 to 1 p.m., after 3 p.m.
