What plan of study should I choose?

Deciding which plan of study to follow can be difficult! Usually, plans of study are selected based on one's career goal. If you are undecided about your career goal, you may want to speak to an academic advisor or attend a career workshop. To make an appointment or for additional information regarding your plan of study options, call (203-332-5097) or visit the Counseling Center (Room LH-A108).

If you are relatively sure of your career goal, you may want to speak to an academic advisor or faculty member. To do so, visit the Counseling Center (Room LH-A108), email, or call (203) 332-5208.

For general information about the Housatonic Community College academic programs, see the HCC Catalog or review the Programs of Study online.

How do I know what classes to take?

Required classes for each program can be found in the HCC Catalog or at the Programs of Study online.

The first choice of classes is determined by placement test results and an interview with an Intake Advisor or an Academic Advisor. Assistance is available during registration periods and subsequent semester choices are generally made only with an assigned advisor's assistance.

For general assistance in selecting your classes, you will meet with an Academic Advisor before or during Registration, or you may call the Counseling Center at (203) 332-5097.

If you have specific questions about courses within a program, you may wish to speak to a faculty member or contact the Academic Division office; (203) 332-5060.

What is an Academic Advisor?

An Academic Advisor is a faculty or staff member who assists students in selecting their classes for each semester using the appropriate Program of Study and College Catalog as a guide.

Who is my Academic Advisor?

Every student enrolled in a degree or certificate program is assigned a faculty member as their permanent Academic Advisor. A student can find out who their assigned advisor is by checking myCommNet or by checking with the Academic Advising Center (Room LH-A111) or Counseling Center (Room LH-A108) or any College office.

How do I know what the courses are about?

Course descriptions can be found online and in the Housatonic Community College Catalog.

How do I schedule classes for next semester?

An Academic Advisor can assist you in scheduling classes for an upcoming semester. You will be assigned a permanent advisor based on the Plan of Study you have chosen during your first semester. If you have additional questions, you may visit the Counseling Center, send an email message, or call (203) 332-5097.

If you have specific questions about courses within a program, you may wish to speak to a faculty member or contact the Academic Division office; telephone (203) 332-5060, or email.

Students who have been placed on probation or academically dismissed should see an academic advisor to schedule classes and establish a plan for academic improvement. To make an appointment to see an Academic Advisor, send an email message, or visit the office or call the Counseling Office at (203) 332-5097.
